CV Barbara Ehnes
Barbara Ehnes studied fine arts in Amsterdam and Hamburg before studying stage design with Wilfried Minks and Marina Abramović at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts as well as theatre and literature studies at the University of Hamburg. Since 2001, she has continually collaborated with the director Stefan Pucher, and many of their works have been invited to Berlin’s Theatertreffen festival, including „Volksfeind“ 2015, “The Tempest” in 2008, “Othello” and “Homo Faber” in 2005, “Richard III” in 2003, „Jeff Koons“ 2000.
Her further artistic partners include Lydia Steier, Stefan Bachmann, Sebastian Baumgarten, Calixto Bieito, Schorsch Kamerun, Lars-Ole Walburg, Jossi Wieler/Sergio Morabito and the choreographer Meg Stuart. She has worked at numerous German and international theatres and also in international operas - most recently in 2020 at the New National Theatre in Tokyo with the production "A Dream of Armageddon".
Barbara Ehnes has additionally begun to create staged installations, such as “Istanbul Transgelinler” in 2009 and “Die schwarze Botin – remastered and remistressed” in 2013, both for the festival Wiener Festwochen and at the Ruhrtrieenale 2019 „ΑΛΛΗΛΕΓΓΥΗ – Solidarität“ (ongoing until 2022 at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
From 2001 to 2009, she served as a member of Frank Baumbauer’s artistic directorship team at Munich’s Kammerspiele. In 2005, she was distinguished with the German stage award “Opus”. Together with Chris Kondek, she received the German theatre award “Der Faust” in 2012. Since 2011, Barbara Ehnes has been a professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. She lives in Berlin.
